Legendary running back, Walter Payton set the record in a narrow 10-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
In spite of Payton’s dominant performance on the ground, the Bears only scored one touchdown and instead won the game by dominating time of possession and taking advantage of their spectacular defense, who held the Vikings to just 7 points.
Payton’s 275 yards is currently the fifth most rushing yards run by a running back in a single game. Corey Dillon ran for 278 in 2000, Jamal Lewis, who ran for 295 yards in a game in 2003 sits at second all-time. Adrian Peterson holds the current record, just barely topping Lewis with 296 yards in 2007.
